Project Overview

Building Management System (BMS) installation at the university in Glasgow, power and low voltage cabling was carried out to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and compliance with UK regulations. Power cables supplying BMS panels, controllers, and actuators were be installed in suitable containment systems such as trunking, conduits, or cable trays, with proper segregation from low voltage control and data circuits. Low voltage cabling, including communication, sensor, and control wiring, were run in shielded or twisted pairs where required, with careful routing to minimise electromagnetic interference. All cables were neatly terminated, clearly labelled, and supported at the correct intervals in line with BS 7671 and university technical standards. Separation between power and signal wiring were maintained at all times, and crossings should be arranged at right angles to avoid induced noise. Prior to commissioning, testing of continuity, insulation resistance, and polarity needed completed to ensure compliance and system reliability. Proper documentation, as-built drawings, and labelling have been provided to facilitate future maintenance and expansion of the BMS system.
